Configuring buzzbox Communicator Softphone

buzzbox Communicator is a fully featured unified communications tool for PC desktop and laptop computers. With it, you can send messages, make video calls and make regular voicecalls from one central location. It also provides you with a centralised phonebook for your organisation's contacts with presence capability - meaning you can see when someone is on the phone or away from their desk.

To install, download the application from:

https://www.buzzbox.cc/media/files/buzzboxCommunicator.zip - when prompted for a password, enter: buzzbox

To run the buzzbox Communicator you will also need to install Java Runtime Environment 32 BIT after installing buzzbox Communicator. You can download this here:

https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

NOTE: You will need 32 Bit Java Runtime (so select the download that DOESN'T say 64 bit). You can have both 64 bit and 32 bit versions installed on one computer if you are already using Java Runtime 64 bit.

Once both are installed, we can now configure the software:

* do not use the wizard to create any accounts. We will do this from scratch. Cancel the wizard window when it appears

* click Tools > Options > Click the Add button and select SIP from the list.

* in SIP ID box, enter your extension followed by your host name - if you don't have this, please contact us for the correct name (it is also mentioned in your welcome email). So your SIP ID will look something like: 6001@mycompany.dyndns.info (or eg. 6001@mycompany.buzzbox.cc for cloud customers)

* in the password box, enter the password (aka 'secret') for the extension. You or your system administrator will have this as you/they would have set this password when you/they created your extension on buzzbox.

* click the Advanced button. Click the Connection tab. In 'Authorization Name' box, enter your extension number, eg. 6001.

* untick the 'Configure Proxy Automatically' box and then enter either your buzzbox IP address (for Pro customers), or host name (for cloud customers) in the Proxy box. For Pro customers, this is usually 192.168.1.201 or similar - and cloud customers you'll enter eg. mycompany.buzzbox.cc. Note: If you are using buzzbox Communicator outside of the main office and you are a Pro customer, enter your host name eg. mycompany.dyndns.info instead. Then select 'TCP' from the drop down list.

* click the 'Presence' tab and under 'Contactlist Options', select XCAP from the dropdown list. Depending on your configuration you must enter one of two options. If you are using buzzbox Pro and the computer running Communicator are in the same office, enter in the 'Server URI/Address' box:

http://192.168.1.201:81/xcap-root (remember to replace the IP address with your buzzbox's actual IP address if it is not the same or the website name as provided in your welcome email or by your support agent).

If you are using buzzbox Communicator outside of the office, or using buzzbox Cloud edition, the address above would be instead:

http://xxxx.yyyy.zzz:81/xcap-root (remember to replace xxxx.yyyy.zzz with your host address provided by your buzzbox support agent or in the welcome email - keep the rest the same)

Finally tick the 'Use SIP credentials' tickbox.

* click 'Next' and 'Sign In'. You should now be logged in and you should be able to see your contact list too

Next step is to set up messaging:

* click Tools > Options > Click the Add button and select XMPP from the list.

* select 'Existing Account' and enter your extension followed by your host name as the 'XMPP Username' - if you don't have this, please contact us for the correct name (or check your welcome email). So your 'XMPP Username' will look something like: 6001@mycompany.dyndns.info (or for cloud customers something like 6001@yourname.buzzbox.cc)

* in the password box, enter the password (aka 'secret') for the extension. You or your system administrator will have this as you/they would have set this password when you/they created the extension on buzzbox

* click 'Advanced' then 'Connection' tab. Tick the 'Override Connection Server' box and enter your buzzbox IP adderss, this is usually 192.168.1.201 or similar. Note: Skip this step if you are using buzzbox Communicator outside of the main office or you are a cloud customer

* click 'Telephony' tab and tick the 'Disable Jingle' tickbox

* click 'Next' and 'Sign In'. You should now be logged in to chat and you should be able to see your contact list of chat 'buddies' too

NOTES

The contacts list in buzzbox Communicator is by and large NOT editable by users - all contacts are centrally managed by the buzzbox administrator using the 'Global Address book' tool in buzzbox (these contacts appear in the 'Global Phonebook' group in buzzbox Communicator) and the staff groups created using the 'Office Directory Manager'. Any changes made by staff to these groups will be overwritten the next time they start buzzbox Communicator. Users can add contacts to the 'Personal Contacts' group only and these will not be replaced or deleted.

A second point to note: Dialing a number quickly by copy/pasting the number into the dial text box is made even quicker by using CTRL+Enter to dial the number, rather than having to use the mouse to press the green circular 'dial' icon.
