Porting a number to buzzbox
Porting a number is the process of moving a number away from your current provider (normally BT or Virgin) and having it hosted with buzzbox. This means that you no longer pay your old provider for line rental as the service will cease when you move the number away from them. Do bear in mind that porting a number will stop the phone socket from working and any other associated services such as broadband.
The process is very particular but here is a to do list to ensure the process completes smoothly:
1. Call BT porting desk or the customer services number for your current provider
2. Confirm your MBN (Main Billing Number) with the agent
3. Confirm your billing address and postcode AND installation address (these can and often are different)
4. Confirm whether your number/s are single or multi lines
5. Confirm the entire list of number/s on your account (if you have multiple numbers or DDIs)
Once you have this information, please email the details to your account handler at buzzbox with your company name or to info@buzzbox.cc. We will then prepare a porting form that will be emailed to you. You will be required to sign and scan this porting form back to us.
We will then submit the port request and the process will begin.
Porting a US or Canadian number to buzzbox
To move/port your existing US or Canadian number, we'll need the following information:
1. Your desired port-in date (we recommend no sooner than 5 days in the future)
2. Your account number with the existing provider. This is normally shown on your bill or sometimes can simply be the phone number itself
3. Account PIN (if required)
3. Account telephone number - the contact number for your account with the current provider
4. The name of the "port-in authorizer" - this would normally be the customer name that features on your phone bill from the current provider
5. A "port-in auth date" - this is the date you received the port out PIN (see below). If you don't need a port out PIN, then buzzbox will use today's date
6. A "port-out PIN" if required. If your provider requires a port-out PIN, we will need this
7. We will need your residental address for the number too
Once you have this information, please email the details to support@buzzbox.cc and we will begin the process. Porting normally takes 5-10 working days, depending on the losing provider, but often happens quicker than this.
FAQs
Q: Porting a number what is it and what does it involve?
A: Porting a number is the process of moving your number from your current provider to buzzbox.
The pros of this are:-
1. That you won’t be paying for your number to be diverted to buzzbox
2. You won’t be paying line rental anymore (for the number you move across)
3. Multiple inbound calls and you can call out at the same time
4. You won’t be paying hefty line rental costs
The Cons :-
1. If the number you wish to port is connected to any services i.e Voicemail, email, broadband etc, they will be lost and your broadband will be disconnected for about 10 days (or as long as it takes for your provider to port the number)
Q: Are there any costs for this?
A: Yes
1-2 numbers cost £20 each port. Any more than this is a capped price of £60. If the port fails, the cost of the port attempt is non-refundable and subsequent attempts will be billed again.
Geographic Number Rental Prices PCM
1 number = £3
2 numbers = £6
3 numbers = £9
4 numbers = £12
5 numbers = £14.50
6+ numbers = £2.70 each
This cost is in addition to your monthly buzzbox cost.
Q: What is MBN?
A: MBN (Main Billing Number) is the number that is billed for all other associated services e.g. Broadband
Q: Can I move my number to buzzbox after cutting off my line?
A: No, your line must be active in order to complete the process. Why? If you disconnect your line before moving your numbers away from your telephone provider then you will lose the number and all active services associated with it. You can however move other numbers separately and keep all services active.
Q: What if I don’t want my main number but I want my other ones?
A: If you decide you don’t want your MBN then you can just port the other numbers there’s no problem there
Q: Will I still have active broadband after porting my number?
A: Not if you port your MBN. As soon as you have moved that number all your services associated with it also disconnect
Q: How long until my number will be active again?
A: For a single line anywhere up to 7 days. For a multi anywhere up to 17 days.
